Majik Mushing Training Camp More information Hiking Trails Stugun Wake up at Sunshine Stuga on Lake Mörtsjön and you are almost in the forest already. The cottage sits roughly 5 km (3 mi) north-east of Stugun’s main street. Hence, the trail information board by the river bridge and the trailhead at the heritage museum (Hembygdsgården) are only about an eight-minute drive or a fifteen-minute bicycle ride away. Below you will find four way-marked walks. I kept the language simple, yet gave you a fuller picture of what each route feels like on the ground. 1. Stugubergsleden – red marks, 4. 9 km, mediumThis is the “summit” walk. The path leaves the museum, passes the little ski-stadium, and climbs gently through spruce forest to Lilla Stuguberget. Then it pushes up a steeper, rocky slope (about 150 m of total ascent) to Stuguberget itself. At the top, you step onto bare bedrock and get a huge view: the Indalsälven river winding through the valley, fields that look like green quilts, and the dark line of distant hills. The descent on the south side is short but fairly steep; after that, the loop meanders back on soft mossy ground. Allow 1½–2 hours if you stop for photos. 2. Älvleden – blue marks, 9. 8 km, easyThink of this as the “Riverside & meadows” tour. From the bridge, you stroll beside the broad Indalsälven, past an old hydro-power station whose low hum mixes with birdsong. A sandy cove called Fagerstranden invites a paddle on hot days. Further downstream, the track skirts hay meadows at Fredrikslund, where swallows swoop low above the grass. The return leg turns through mixed pine-and-birch woodland, crossing ski-trails and quiet forest lanes before popping out at the museum again. The terrain is mostly flat, so even relaxed walkers finish the circuit in three hours. In winter, the same line is groomed for cross-country skiing when snow depth allows. 3. Vågenleden – green marks, two choices: 3. 4 km or 9 kmThis walk wraps around Lake Vågen, giving you plenty of water views. Short loop (3. 4 km): starts at Kompaniet café. You follow an easy lakeside track through reeds and alder trees, then a short stretch on a quiet lane back to coffee and cinnamon buns. Long loop (9 km): leaves the museum, rises gently towards Stuguberget for sweeping glimpses of water and hills, then swings along the lake shore past hamlets like Framnäs and Skönvik. The surface changes from forest path to gravel road and back again, so trainers are fine. Count on 45 minutes for the short loop or up to 2½ hours for the long. Both options are bike-friendly. naturkartan. se4. Byleden – yellow marks, 6. 5 km, all-season village circuitIf you prefer something level, pick Byleden. It links together back lanes, gravel roads, and well-kept footpaths inside the settlement itself. That means snow is ploughed in winter and the surface stays stroller-friendly. You will pass painted wooden houses, allotment gardens, and an old church, yet still hear the river rushing under the bridge. Locals use the route for Sunday walks, running laps, and evening bike rides. Expect 1–1¼ hours at a gentle pace.
